microhive.social is a Fediverse instance that uses the ActivityPub protocol. In other words, users at this host can communicate with people that use software like Mastodon, Pleroma, Friendica, etc. all around the world.
This server runs the snac software and there is no automatic sign-up process.
I think it's time to write an #introduction for this account as well!
I'm Stefano Marinelli, Barista of the illumos Cafe and the BSD Cafe. I'm a technology and open source enthusiast, a strong advocate for #OwnYourData, and against computer monoculture, even when it comes to open source solutions.
I've been active in the #Fediverse for years and am a firm believer in it. I decided to found this Cafe to bring the positive spirit of the BSD Cafe to curious and passionate users of #illumos based operating systems (#OmniOS, #SmartOS, #Tribblix, #OpenIndiana, etc.).
I'll mainly use this account for content related to this instance and illumos-based operating systems, while my account at the BSD Cafe - @stefano@bsd.cafe - remains my primary one.
For more information about the illumos Cafe, you can read the introductory post here: https://it-notes.dragas.net/2025/08/18/introducing-the-illumos-cafe/
Randomly thinking of that glorious moment in time over four years ago when @jz made a poll with three options: R, G, B, and fedi collectively created a color: Fédi-vert.
Hey everyone,
Today, @joynewacc and I had the pleasure of welcoming two new members to the Gaza Verified family.
They are:
• Ahmad (@goodahmad)
• Suad (@suad)
Please give them a warm welcome to Mastodon and the fediverse and contribute to their fundraisers if you can. (And please share this so others can do the same.)
Remember that you can see a list of our members and their fundraisers in one place (ordered by those who have raised the least in the past week) at:

Another issues, which you may have noticed, are many Fediverse sites wrongfully discriminate against Fediverse sites in Asia (Korea, Japan, etc...).
I find this ironic for many reasons.
The one I am currently on (this one) is in Europe, but one of the reasons I have had more than one account, and why many of the 3rd party Fediverse Apps allow you to sign in to multiple accounts, is to overcome that fragmentation. The Fediverse most certainly does have a fragmentation issue.
If you're looking to join the Fediverse. And presuming you are one of the people who do not want to promote hate speech (not all of 4Chan is bad), I would recommend an Asian site, since freedom of speech is more respected and valued. Perhaps more Asian sites allow it because it's not exactly widespread in offline (in the real world).
There are some good European sites (this being one of them). But know that most Asian sites will be more relaxed.
Hello 4Chan
This will be the — you know what? I've lost track of how many times I've been "featured" on 4chan.
Unfortunately, the mass wave of people opening tickets claiming I should add the chan to this list, triggered the anti-spam feature. You're all a very enthusiastic bunch, as always. 😂 That said, 4Chan is not part of the Fediverse and the domain name extension is American, and so would qualify for my list. 🤷
But I did want to address one of the tickets, since it does underline some of the issues among the Fediverse. 😉
The Fediverse has a lot of fragmentation. This is often caused by admins who should not be administrators. An admin will get into a disagreement with 1 person, 1x and choose to block not just that individual, but the whole site and all their users. So if you have 5,000 people on site "1A" and 5,000 on site "2B", you have 10,000 people who cannot communicate with one another, and are clueless this has taken place.

#frage
Wow, already 3 years on the #Fediverse, meaning I have been running my #Mastodon instance just as long... crazy how fast time flies by...
My instance here in Switzerland is still small, so if someone needs a home, you may join!
Good day #fediverse! My morning coffee is powered by a portable gasoline generator as well as my network, office and heating.
Blackouts came just in time when almost all of my #Homelab is moved to #Hetzner. Actually blackouts are always not in time, as well as #russians. Please, remember that #RussiaIsATerroristState.

Random Idea: Every time you like a post in the Fediverse, it prompts you why you like it and turns it into a comment. There would be a lot more friendly comments. :)
Can anyone recommend a tool for basically mass unfollowing Fediverse/Mastodon accounts or otherwise managing your followings?
I'm following almost 2000 accounts and while my feed is very much alive and buzzing, it feels like it doesn't really match my interests. It's too generic.
I need to weed out what I actually care about. Is there anything that can help with that?
2025 was huge for the #fediverse
Mad respect to all the devs, artists, and community members making this movement unstoppable
Does anyone have #fediverse or #mastodon stats (preferably from a few different servers) about numbers of bad-faith actors being identified, banned, etc.? I've become pretty interested in this from a methodological point of view. I'm thinking of running some #moderation simulations to explore possibilities in a "calculate some stuff and make some graphs" way. Actually, if someone already did that, I'd be keen to read it.
I'm interested in how to detect "bad eggs," realizing as I think about it that I don't even know all the questions to ask, and this entire line of investigation has some thorny issues I'll need to deal with. I think infosec.exchange might, in some ways, be the perfect server to be on for this, because I am pretty sure that #cybersecurity has huge overlap with this whole domain.

calling it "X (formerly Twitter)" two years later is driving me insane, like at what point do we just accept reality and move on.
I don't support musk, I don't like what happened to the platform, but it's been two years and we all know what it's called now, what's the point of the disclaimer every single time?
facts matter even when they suck, and the fact is the bird app died in 2022, this is what we got instead, just call it by its name already
And those are the people I want to help. That's what my guide addresses, people who really want help and will accept help. Not people who just want your money. 😉
Of course, that is why those 4 posts are currently my most heated posts. Because there are a lot of scammers here who just want your cash.
I'm so excited the #Fediverse has passed the "you see other people's posts about the massive outage before you get a chance to post about it yourself" tipping point.

@haubles @Mastodon @mellifluousbox @renchap 🎉 Congrats! Great to see the team expanding and fortifying the #fediverse

Hey everyone, we have some pretty big news to share. You might remember that we announced a big restructuring for the Mastodon team earlier this year. Today marks an important milestone in this transition.
News and social. One app.
We are incredibly excited and, honestly, really proud to be launching The Bristol Cable iOS app with The Bristol Cable today.
Our mission to unite knowledge sharing communities has never been more apparent as we continue the introduction of our Social Web enabled community apps. This time, with a news flavour! 🗞️

He's a developer, podcaster, and blogger.
He also created Echofeed, an app that looks great! Just go check it.
Today, he shares his thoughts on #Avengers, #WeekNotes, #Stickers, #BuJo , and #Tacos
He recommended also two books:
- How to lie with statistics
- So you've been publicly shamed

Expectation: A set of #Fediverse platforms where people engage in debating and talking around a given subject or hyperlink, actions of which imply a quite continuous flow of user-written texts, back and forth among the peers, especially when there's some kind of disagreement. Reality: texts are there for virtue signaling and circlejerking around the allowed principles of the hive mind, and god forbid someone disagrees with any of said principles by bringing a well-elaborated text containing nuanced takes... People are too lazy to try and argue (and, by extension, promoting debate) so they treat the down arrow as if it were some kind of well-elaborated argument to the matter they're disagreeing with. Then they blame LLMs for taking over the means of human textual production, when themselves are giving away the ability of textual production on a silver plate. I had several nice and interesting debates and exchanges on Y U NO USE KEYBOARD?
I'm reading a New York Review of Books article about the Internet and the World Wide Web. The article discusses recent books by Tim Berners-Lee and Cory Doctorow. This paragraph caught my eye. Berners-Lee is the "he" at the start of the passage. Hurrah for Mastodon, I say. #Mastodon #Fediverse #Technology #Internet #SocialMedia #OpenSource
Today is our third anniversary on Mastodon and the Fediverse for our daily 9PM #HashTagGames.
This past year, #Fediverse players have played over 100,000 game plays.
Including the special games that popup, we have shared over 1100 unique hashtag games since November 16, 2022.
Thank you for joining me every day for our little moment of silliness.
You friend and host,
@paul
See you at 9PM EST, (6PM PT / 2AM GMT / 3AM CET / 1PM AEDT / 2PM NZST) for our new game.
Proudly hosting daily games since November 16, 2022

@zynaesthesie Und natürlich endet mastodon.id-52849.pro und id-52849.pro auf 172.67.208.214welches im Addressblock 172.64.0.0/13 vom größten #RogueISP, #CloudFlare aka. #ClownFlare, liegt.
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/greyhat-academy/lists.d/main/drop.domains.block.list.tsv

Three years ago today, we opened the doors to our corner of the Fediverse. 💙
What started as an idea has grown into a friendly space for good conversations, smart humor, and authentic interactions. It’s been amazing watching this community grow with all of you.
Thank you to everyone who’s shared, posted, and made Vivaldi Social part of their online space. You’ve helped shape this community into what it is today.
Here’s to everyone who’s been part of it, and to all the new voices we’ll meet along the way.
Happy 3rd birthday, Vivaldi Social! 🎉

I'm powering through yesterday's covid and flu shots 💀 Perfect time to show you that Moxxi is ready for winter with her jacket and #Fediverse goggles!

Hi, guys. I broke my Mastodon installation. Next time, I should use a server dedicated solely to Mastodon, lol, because it conflicts with my other apps, lol.

Ever wonder why you see the #fedi22 hashtag in bios?
Yeah, that's my fault.
I build a People Directory in 2022 for the #fediverse that used that hashtag for verification.
I'll improve it and make it way better, perhaps with Starter Pack support 😉
