@bogo It's a good idea. But I have there ca. 500 people and almost all of them don't want to move to either #fediverse or #Signal (or any other "rational" messaging system). They are typically non-IT people and use Facebook and WhatsApp (and possibly Instagram or TikTok).

I am collecting other contact information from them (e-mail addresses, phone numbers...), but it's a long-distance run. When done (in the future), I will leave Facebook completely 😎

The quickest, easiest and most effective way to solve this would be if the official apps stopped promoting mastodon.social, and instead promoted a rotating selection from a pool of reliable servers with solid track records.

In the past I've coded lots of things for blocking various things, which is all about excluding what we don't want.

I'm finding it much harder to think of ways to attract and promote things we DO want.

In an ideal utopia we'd be making social media that makes people feel better. Not neutral or the same as before and certainly not worse than before. I don't think we can get there by excluding bad things, we need to be including/nurturing/promoting good things too.

Doomscrolling on the fediverse is completely different.

I scroll, post, chat. Then I feel satisfied and I just... close it. Done. I go do something else.

BigTech social media? I'd blink and two hours were gone. Finally close the app feeling sick and empty, like I'd just eaten an entire bag of candy in one sitting. That gross, regretful feeling in your gut.
