I'm now a huge Snac2 fan! The whole thing here on this domain was once intended as a test, but has now established itself and “taken on a life of its own”. Simply because Snac is super solid and uncomplicated and the developer is a cool guy who listens and thinks along.
My Snac instance runs administratively at @knt@streams.knthost.com, because I have no idea about basic server settings etc., but I can operate a shell terminal from time to time.
The guys are currently offering everything out-of-the-box as a beta test:

New: Fediverse Report #101
This week's news:
- @pixelfed continues to grow, adding 100k active users in a week. The platform now has grown from 20k active users a month ago to almost 300k active accounts currently
- The Pixelfed Kickstarter smashed its goals, raising over 100k CAD in funding
- Tumblr recommits to connecting to the #fediverse in the future, using the WordPress #ActivityPub plugin
Nach den letzten ein, zwei Wochen bin ich gespannt, wie sich das Netzwerk hier entwickeln wird, wenn mehr "professionelle" Accounts von X, Insta und anderen Plattformen hier auftauchen (und bleiben). Anfangs sah ich das Fehlen solcher Accounts als einen Fehler des Fediverse und als echten Mangel, da man sich nicht mit den gewohnten Inhalten berieseln lassen konnte. Stattdessen gab und gibt es "hausgemachte" Inhalte wechselnder aber noch irgendwie vergleichbarer Qualität (Blogs, Fotos, Posts) von Leuten wie dir und mir.
Mittlerweile betrachte ich das "Mitmachnetzwerk" als großen Vorteil, weil man sich hier ließt und sieht, da die meisten Nutzer auf einer gleichen Augenhöhe sind - zumindest habe ich diesen Eindruck. Ich habe kein Interesse mehr an einem Netzwerk, das von einigen großen Accounts dominiert wird, wo man nicht mehr ist als "Like-Vieh". Hier gibt es zwar keine Algorithmen, aber wenn die Menschen anfangen, nur noch professionell erzeugte Inhalte großer Accounts zu verbreiten, wird sich das Netzwerk schnell in die gleiche Richtung entwickeln, wie wir es von X und Insta kennen.
Interesting experience... I have not done a Friendica only presentation for some time. During the recent years it was mostly introductions to the Fediverse or more topic orientated talks / workshops. First iteration of the slides for the Social Web Devroom at FOSDEM (Saturday 15:30 to 16h) is done 🚀

Just a few days ago, I lunched my new relay service for the #Fediverse and I'm really happy to see that there're already many ones connected to - more than 50 instances in just a few days!
But what makes me even really happy is to see, that my service [2] also gets linked in the release notes of #snac [1] / #snac2 - and I can recommend the usage of relay services (it doesn't matter which one!) to everyone. It provides more content from connected instances to you, but also brings your posts - from your local instance - up to other ones within the federated network where it can get much easier distributed around other instances.
#snac is the perfect way to host an own fediverse instance. Using the #ActivityPub protocol allows you to connect to all other instances. With the integrated #Mastodon API, you can also use most of your usual clients or web clients. Snac is light, fast, does not require any database and follows the KISS way - which the most of us BSD people are living. With relay services, it's the perfect match for singe-user instances and @grunfink is always open for ideas and to help! It does not always need to be #Mastodon, #GoToSocial etc!
And if you're using any other software, you may still benefit by using relay services. And if you're still looking for a guide, howto setup snac2 on #FreeBSD, my howto [3] might help you out.

Am 6.1.2025 zwischen 19 und 21 Uhr ist wieder Zeit sich auf der cbase zu treffen, über das Fediverse zu palavern und mit den Menschen hinter den Profilbildern zu schnacken.
Am Tag 2 wird es auf dem #38c3 ein #Fedihub Vernetzungstreffen geben.
Der Fedihub entstand im Nachgang vom @berlinfediday um an der Stelle die Arbeit die wir vom Stammtisch organisiert hatten zu verstetigen und weiter zu machen.
