Ran a workout today that my colleague designed: a progressive intervals session consisting of 6 x 800m runs. Full rest in between.
I think my heart rate monitor in the watch is broken. I never see really high heart rates anymore. Today’s session was hard and it didn’t result in a serious peak. So I have ordered Garmins heart rate strap now - I need to settle this once and for all 🧐🧐🤨.
Extremely good session today. Very tough 😛
Weird Garmin thing: if I have the app in my phone open during a run I get mile splits in my headphones. Not a fan #running

38K mit 900HM durch die Eifel 🏃♀️ Das war für mich ein echtes Highlight 👍🙂👍
Es hatte sogar einen Touch vom Barkley Marathon. Denn ich musste ca. 500 durch Brombeersträucher gehen. Meine Beine sahen danach entsprechend aus 😬
Jetzt bekommt mein Körper aber erstmal zwei Wochen, um sich von den Läufen nahe der Marathondistanz zu erholen. Werde mich in der Zeit eher auf Intervall und Höhenmeter konzentrieren. Aber im gemäßigten Umfang 😊

Plank was a bit of a struggle, yoga was good, and strength was good. I may need to get some heavier weights soon.
The run was rough - was already hot out when I left and it only got worse. I checked my heart rate - Z4 while puttering along, and shooting up into Z5 at the stairs. I am a creature of the cold… And out of shape. 🤣
Das Open-Air Kino auf den Rheinwiesen ist wieder aufgebaut, da kann man unter der Tribüne durch einen Tunnel rennen 🙂

23K MTB Ride && 11K Run
I bought a new MTB and took it for a test ride today. In the forest (plantation) where I usually run the trails. Roughly an hour.
Then a run - 11K on the road.
My motivation for the bike is to use it for: cross training sometimes, recovery sessions and also occasional transport to/from work.
It was nice to get so far around in a relatively short amount of time 😀. Felt like very good exercise 👌🏻😎

Swam the length of the reservoir this morning and back, water levels low and the entry was muddy. We then took the op to do the 14k 370m elevation run from Byrness to Spithope Bothy loop. It brightened up a wee bit on the way back. Only 30 minutes from the cottage,

"MACH ES EINFACH‼️" sagte ich zu mir, als ich sah, dass die Anmeldung für den Königsforst Marathon am 15.03.2026 möglich ist.
Und so meldete ich mich für den Ultramarathon über 63,3K und ca. 600HM an. Starten werde ich für den Verein 'Runners of Mastodon' ✌️😎 und erstmalig in der AK M60.
Das Ganze zeigt, dass man auch im höheren Alter noch bescheuerte Ideen haben kann 😬😊👍

Back from an easy 3.8k/33min run. I didn’t feel like challenging myself so I picked one of Peloton’s “outdoor run club” workouts, which is basically fun running at an easy-moderate pace and just cruising there for the duration (this one did have a one minute challenging pace strider in the middle). I struggled to find my rhythm for the first kilometre but overall it was fun and I feel great.
I really think it’s time I started trying to run longer distances but that’s not easy to do here without taking the bus somewhere or getting Tom to drive me. I’ll have to give it some more thought.

Die Eifel inkl. der Voreifel zieht mich immer magisch an 🤗
Und da ich schonmal in der Nähe war, hab ich direkt die Chance für einen Lauf 🏃🏻♂️ genutzt.
War eine schöne Mischung zwischen breiteren Waldwegen, schmalenen Pfaden, viel Wurzelwerk, schönen Ausblicken und einer Burg 👍
Gleichzeitig beinhaltete die Strecke den mit ca. 7K längsten Anstieg, den ich je gelaufen bin. Das war schon eine Herausforderung, besonders bei diesem feuchtwarmen Wetter 🥵😬👍😊

The 10km on the beach were very hard. Slanted soft sand. Ran too late under the sun but it worked out well. My leg is getting there.
This beach is one of the longest in the world.
I should have listened to my watch, because Suunto said yesterday that it might be a good idea to have a rest day tomorrow.
Had a good run, a bit to hot for me, but felt good. But everytime I slowed down, for hills or letting the Irish mutt do his WeeMail, I got attacked by horseflies.
Lost count of how many of these little bar stewards managed to bite me. I will take an antihistamine and hope the itch, that will for sure happen later, ain't mental.

Out shopping with the family and found a #Garmin Forerunner 305 for $25 at a second hand store. It has everything but the heart rate chest strap. I don't know if it powers on yet.

A Slow & Easy run in Zone 2, up the first of my winter hills, a route I haven't run since I fell & bruised my ribs back in March.
Totally demystified now, felt good to run that way without the fall in my head.
Pretty tough run tho, this is the first hill I've run in almost 2 months! I have been enjoying flattish routes this summer, but with the hydration vest and bladder there was no reason not to push it.

Meine Läufe über 20K beinhalten auch immer mehrere Gehpausen. Inspiriert von @oliver und @schrotie stellte ich mir dir Frage, was ich ohne Gehpausen schaffen würde.
So wählte ich meine Trailrunning-Strecke über 27K und lief los.
Nach 5K voller Zweifel lief es auf einmal wie von selbst. Sowas nennt man wohl Runners High 🤔
Es war auf jeden Fall ein tolles Gefühl 👍👍 und am Tag danach fühlen sich meine Beine auch wieder ganz gut an 😊

Branxholme Easter Loch
Another quiet swim. Perfect for a skinny dip and convenient for a run along paths in a nearby wood. 2 lengths of the loch (about 1.5k) and 8k of cushioned tracks through the wood. I love the ‘bench’ which has been here since before we first swam it. More detail in photos, but carved from a great rock and inscribed.

Remembrance swim 17 of 61
St Mary's Loch (not to be confused with the Loch of the Lowes).
A run along the side of the loch, and then a swim by the sailing club. Very enjoyable and it was different to be able to use the buoys as landmarks to allow long circuits to be swum. Amiable temperatures, 9k run and 1.5k swim. The cafe was open so…. @Lee6
