Today was solo adventure time!
I climbed Mont Valaisan, via Col du Petit Saint-Bernard, Mont Belvédère and Bella Valetta.
A bunch of great climbs, sometimes very technical. Nice flowing descents I could bomb down and other very technical ones I had to dance down. It was rather cold in the morning, but once I got lower again around noon it started to be very hot.
I had my first 100 miles race: The Mauerweglauf along the former Berlin wall.
After 80k I had to walk and after 120k there was no energy available and I couldnt walk well anymore, so I decided to stop.
Anyway, it was a great experience. The race itself but also my training throughout the year. It is the journey that matters :)
Björn Suneson, fellow Swede, finished his 9th ”coast to coast - across America” run at age 77.
He covered 4934km (3066miles) in 105 days running self supported with a baby jogger west to east from the Pacific to the Atlantic.
He did his first coast to coast crossing in 2007 at age 59. So in average one crossing every two years… Apart from this he has been out on other longer tours, like “Trans Sweden (Smygehuk - Treriksröset, 1336 miles in 40 days)” or “All swedish counties, 2175 miles in 63 days”. Always self supported with his baby jogger.
You can read up in English on his journey (and the previous crossings) at https://www.suneson.se/index.php
Trail race done, ok: Brooks O.U.T.81 ✅
That wasn’t easy 🤣. Many times I had near cramp signals. Everywhere in the legs - moving around making warnings.
Anyhow: best race ever - we also had the best sunny warm weather. Drank a lot. Ate a lot. Ran to my limit. Even got a 5th place 🤠🕺🏼. Actually I was told quite a few times I was third .. that changed after km 67. Two stronger runners passed me. Stressful running for podium

Throwback to a great adventure I had 3 years ago: I ran Höga Kustenleden in Sweden (154km) solo and unsupported, carrying everything needed on my back, in a 9kg pack.
I remember it as being tougher than I anticipated and a nice 2 days spending time on my own in beautiful surroundings.

Enjoy some pictures and a report I wrote back then.
Fond memories!
I wonder if triathlon-style brick workouts (run straight after bike) could be a good way to train for #ultrarunning . The most difficult part to train for an ultra is the last 25% of the race = very tired body and mind.
If you first hammer your body with bike and then run, you get to be on tired legs without a lot of impact caused by running first. Could avoid injury but train for fatigue.
Damn you Beau! I know you got me into trail running, now you are getting me into ultra running

Good morning fellow runners!
No running today for me: it was raining the whole morning and I didn't feel like going out. (I know)
Instead, I finished writing my race report on **Oslo Bergen Trail**.
https://teufen.be/2025/07/22/oslo_bergen_trail.html
And as a bonus, a photo which isn't in the report.
Enjoy reading!
I started to write up my Oslo Bergen Trail race report. The biggest question is: how much detail to put into it. There's so much to tell that it threatens to become a very large blog post.
2nd run of my training weekend went ... Hmm
... I got a Marathon, thats great!
Anyway, I planned for 75k but after 40k there was no room for additional 4 to 5 hours, so I decided to take the next train home.
After all, I'm quite happy with the result. I think the tomorrows planned 50k will also end up earlier ... Let's see how far I can get.

Ready for a long running weekend: Riceballs and Brezels will join tomorrow :)
30k on Friday, 80k on Saturday and finally 50k on Sunday. Really looking forward to this special training weekend.

Dear friends,
On Thursday, 3 July, at 08:00, I leave on a great adventure. I am taking part in the Oslo Bergen Trail in Norway.
Along the way there are 8 check points where I can get supplies and possibly sleep. For the rest, I am self-supported. My pack with all the mandatory kit and the necessary food and drink weighs about 9kg.
You can follow me along and maybe post an encouraging message on my personal Ferrett site: https://ferrett.io/u/teufen/obt500
@mathias has now run 2 x mountain marathons (84K+) and seems to still go on strong 💪🏼😎🕺🏼. Preserving his position in race.
Has now run for 18 hours !! 18!
Go go goooOooo 🥳🤠👏🏻
@mathias has done it: finished Lavaredo 120K 👏🏻🥳
After 29 hours and 33 minutes 😎😎. Crossed the finish line this morning at 04:46 AM 🤠
122 Kilometers ➕ 5932 meters elevation gain ⛰️🐐
Well done Mathias👊🏻. This must have been very hard. Good night 💤 to you (I suppose you are sleeping now 😅🤭😴🥱)
Ready to dot watch our very own trail celebrity @mathias 👏🏻🤠👌🏻
Follow him here: it’s going to be a tough one - 120K and 5800+ meter EG 😎😎😎
New Backyard Ultra world record by Phil Gore (AUS). 119 yards or 797.3km in 119 hours or 4days 23 hours. 😳🙌
https://runnerstribe.com/latest-news/phil-gore-breaks-backyard-ultra-world-record-with-119-loops/
With slow pace and a lot of breaks I somehow managed to complete my first proper ultra race in a bit over 19 hours.
There's some more pics on Strava:

Thank you for all the supporting messages here before the race! <3
Nice long run today. Pace and Energy was quite good until 35km, then my power dropped constantly. Managed to run until 47km and then walked the rest.
Maybe I had a little bit the man with the hammer, maybe it was to hot, maybe the trailrunning last weekend was still in my bones, many maybes ... Anyway, 47km is a good result and there is still time left until my 100miles in August. So, next week I will do a couple of 35km runs

I feel ready.
Saturday will probably be the toughest day of my life. I'm curious to see where my limits are and if I'm able to push through them.
Training went well. Solid training block of 50k+ weeks. No injuries. No illneses.
Gear is ready to be packed. I believe I have everything I need.
Couldn't be a better setup to start tomorrow at 23.00.
✅ Race: mozart 100 by UTMB
We started at 05:00 and I was in at 23:50; after 18 hours and 48 minutes.
Austria 🇦🇹 when it’s best 🤩. 80% good weather. Then rain showers 🌧️. Super scenic. Lots of hiking but also lots of running 🥳🤩
The last 10 kilometers - although on paper short - took an eternity 🤭 due to darkness, rain ➡️ mud, massive technical downhill and 1 million stairs UP at Kapuzinerberg. But then; the finish line 🤗
I've been mentally preparing to wind, snow and cold for the ZUT..
What I'm not prepared foris is this..
One week time to heat train.
I read an article which reminded me that an HR of 60-70% is ideal for longer runs. So pace today morning was a result from 69% HRMax. Felt quite good ... I hope I dont forget this from time to time.

Sunday will be race day for me.
I am running the **Nord Trail Monts de Flandres**, a 115km trail running race in the hills of the border region "Heuvelland" in West-Flanders and Northern France.

Tracking link for the Northern Traverse is now open. Race starts 08:30 Saturday UK time. I’m bib number 73. Watch out for Damian Hall (bib 76) who is aiming to break the course record. Conditions look great but cold at nights. Excited and nervous in equal parts. Nowhere to hide now so I just need to deliver a finish, probably some time next Wednesday. #ultrarunning #ultramarathon #running #NorthernTraverse https://live.opentracking.co.uk/northerntraverse2025/
I just finished reading Aurélien Sanchez's after race report on his Barkley Marathons finish in 2023.
What a great story! Well narrated, it brings the reader completely in the Barkley's atmosphere. (Or what I could imagine it is, as I have never experienced this first hand).
Highly recommended!
✅ Wayout Backyard Ultra | 20 hours | 134K
Most of you already know by now; I had a wonderful (trail) backyard race. It started Friday at 20:00 where it was dark. Then we ran through the night and morning. And a bit more. I stopped after 20 hours with good legs and good mood. TBH: I was just very tired and mentally I didn’t have the attitude to keep on. Family time called 😆(and food/sleep).
Unbeaten social event: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Just came back from my long run. It was the first time ever, that I run at night. Started 8pm and came back 11:40pm. Feeling was good. Maybe because of the string coffee before start :)
I also tested 2 gels (high five and powerbar) and one bar (Xenofit). The powerbar gel caused some hickups in the stomach, whereas the Xenofit bar was hard to bite, but felt good once it was "down".

New race from the makers of Legends Trail:
- distance between 60km and 160km
- no information about checkpoints
- start hour and location is known
- It's in the Ardennes, near Vresse-sur-Semois (beautiful valley)
10 days ago, I ran (part of) Legends Trail.
Now I wrote about my experiences.
To try something new, I ordered a testpackage with multiple energy gels.
Step 1: Get all the data and put in a spreadsheet
#running #ultrarunning
First 30k long run this morning. I forgot to load my headphones, so I ran without any sound, just my thoughts and me (and a few earworms). It was quite cold and dark because started at 3:45 a.m.
Also finished finished testing High5 energy gels: They are a bit hard to open, but taste yummi.
