Winter is definitely on the horizon: When I got out for my morning run today, everything was frozen over. No clouds in the sky, so it felt really harshly cold. And yet, I liked it. It took me roughly five minutes to get warm enough to not lose any fingers on the way… and it will get *a lot* colder in the coming days and weeks. At least, there’s no snow so far. Have a great Sunday, y‘all!

Big jog today, just under 25 miles as a recce for part of Winter Downs 100 coming up in a few weeks. Cool day but at least the trails were fairly dry👌🏻

Two years ago today, I wrote my first post on after lurking for months. I was welcomed in torrent of kindness, and am pleased to report my initial impression has held true.

I've found community among people who love , , , , and here (among others).

We still have so much work to do to make this a better, safer place for all.

I have learned so much from so many.

@JvdB My wife is also worried, but I have my Apple Watch with me and can call from almost any place on my runs. So far I never needed this.

In 2021, I had to jump ~3-4 kilometers back home when I had torn a muscle in one leg and couldn’t lift that foot up from the floor for some time. After that, I had an almost two months long break from – but I could have called my wife anytime. (She was working, so I just jumped home on my own…)

Nice trail running weather, 6°C, nearly no wind, grey sky, no rain and nearly no people. Still in shorts and t-shirt, just one extra base layer shirt underneath. Running across the border (no border control in nature). Did the sandpit twice (for the EG). Only fell once (on a stony dirt road, tripped over stone). Bloody knee and bruised ego.

@recollir @pfernandes I really had to stop my lesson for a short moment. I couldn’t eat anything that day. All I took in was coffee. Which did not help *at all*. It took me three days and a lot of work to get back to some kind of a state of normalcy. But, and this is to no one‘s surprise, helps a lot. I switched to a decidedly non-political audiobook and listened to it. I deleted most of my political podcasts, it’s just too hard to bear.

Even more of my usual trails are blocked, so – again – I found a new route. This one features a grueling 2+ kilometer ascent that‘s really tough, but it also had some very nice places to look at. My left ASICS has a hole in the sole, so I felt every stone on the way *very* distinctly. Time to say goodbye to this pair of shoes – which is thoroughly ok after ~3,000 kilometers of usage. is the best way for me to cope with the Tuesday fallout, so I‘ll keep going.

First night since Wednesday with a normal heart rate (for me, that is). It took me some days to settle into this new reality. It seems to me like I‘m gradually adjusting to the situation. On Thursday morning, I woke up to a heart rate way above 60 bpm (that‘s almost double my usual heart rate). Now I’m almost back in my day to day realm.

11 minutes of yoga for runners
                                                          10 minutes of strength training
10 minutes of HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training)
                                                          6.68 KM of (19°C, 78% humidity, and 29 km/hr wind gusting to 41km/h)

Everything felt like garbage, even the run. Really, really shouldn't have listened to the news when doing plank.
